Do you ever have those days where you feel like you are in a funk you can’t get out of? You don’t necessarily feel bad or sick, but on the flip side you don’t feel 100% either and you have no way to explain why you feel that way. I have these days every so often and just a few weeks ago I was having one of these days and this is the day when I stumbled upon something that made me change my thinking.

I need everyone who is reading this to understand that this is what works for me and it might not be the same for you but it may inspire you to look at things around you differently. Recently I have been really trying to take time for myself, self-care as they would say. This particular day I was in a funk, I had a headache, which isn’t out of the ordinary, but it is annoying and some days are worse than others, also I was struggling with my physical appearance. I hadn’t worked out and failed at hitting my goals the weeks leading up to this day. Just to let everyone know I have the sweetest husband and when I’m feeling this way he always tries to ask “what can I do to help?” Most of the time the answer is nothing because it’s usually a mental game I’m playing with myself. But as you are going to find out in just a moment I gave him an answer that he can use in the future.

When the weather is gloomy and rainy or snowy or even just cold, I find that my mood can be in the dumps. So many things around us affect our attitude and mood more than we notice. Do you know what happens when the weather is colder and gloomy? The sun isn’t shining and I love the sunshine and I love how I feel when the sun is out. So on that cold and nasty day, I decided to do something for myself I hadn’t done in a while. I took a really long and hot shower and then I got a bottle and a mitt out of the back of my cabinet and covered myself in self-tanner. Yup, a fake tan in the middle of winter. I was worried because what if the tanner was old and I turned orange? But that was a risk I was willing to take. Haha. To my delight I did not turn out orange actually after a few hours I looked like I had been out in the sun for weeks. I had this glow about me that changed my entire mood. My face was no longer pale and even without makeup, I was feeling good about myself. All of that happened because I took 15 minutes for myself and a $10 bottle of self-tanner. Like I said this may not work for you but it made the world of a difference in my life. And now my husband knows if I’m looking a little pale and down in the dumps to just hand me the self-tanner and take a few minutes for self-care.

You are either in one of two categories. Either you completely understand this logic and can relate to how something so simple can be a mood changer. Or on the other hand, you don’t get at all how something small can make this big of a difference. If the latter category is you that’s ok, look at the environment around you. What is something that brings you joy? Identify the thing that can pull you out of the pit and darkness before you get stuck. For me, that just happens to be a fake tan. 😉

I pray that this blog today was an encouragement to you and can help in your daily life. Always know I am available to pray with you or just be someone to talk to when life gets hard. E-mail me at megan@churchanywhere.us if you need prayer!
