In just about any store I go into these days there are always signs in the home decor section that simply read: “blessed.” Written in all kinds of different scripts, you can also find the word on T-shirts and necklaces—some people even have it tattooed on their bodies. What do you think of when you think of being blessed? We usually say we are blessed when we consider the things God has given us. Do you ever consider that you are blessed because God has turned you from your sinful ways?

“When God raised up his servant, Jesus, he sent him first to you people of Israel, to bless you by turning each of you back from your sinful ways.” (Acts 3:26)

Paul points out that we are blessed, not by the things we have, the food on our table, or the people around us, but that we are blessed because God raised Jesus to turn us from our sinful ways. This certainly must be the first and greatest way by which we are blessed. What a blessing this new life is! When you see that “blessed” sign on your wall or when you put the T-shirt or jewelry on, consider that you are first blessed by the fact that God has turned you from your sinful ways. Before we jump right to the things we own or the food we eat or the sickness we were healed from, let us remember that we are blessed because God has turned us from our sinful ways.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
