Pride of the Heart: The Root

Pride of the Heart: The Root

Have you ever taken something apart again and again trying to find the real problem?

We often treat sin the same way. We manage behaviors. We adjust habits. But we rarely dig down to the root.

Obadiah — one of the shortest books in the Bible — exposes it clearly:

“The pride of your heart has deceived you…” (Obadiah 1:3)

Edom thought they were secure, high in the rocks and untouchable. But their real problem wasn’t their position — it was their pride.

And pride didn’t start with Edom.
It started in Eden.

“You deserve more.”
That lie has echoed through every generation.

Sometimes pride looks like elevating ourselves.
Sometimes it looks like hiding our sin.
Sometimes it looks like pointing at others when they fall.

But pride can’t hide from God.

“Pride goes before destruction…” (Proverbs 16:18)

The issue isn’t just what we do — it’s who sits on the throne of our heart.

God isn’t after performance. He wants your whole heart.
