Let The Bible Read You
Don’t Just Read the Bible, Let It Read You.
Some messages stay with us for decades. “Just Do It.” “I’m Lovin’ It.” “Think Different.”
We may not remember when these brands started, but we remember them because repeated messages shape how we think and live.
These days, we are surrounded by all sorts of messages – from social media, advertising, politics, entertainment, and culture….thousands of voices are telling us who we should be and what matters most.
But Scripture does something different. Hebrews 4:12 says the Word of God is “alive and active… judging the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
In other words, the Bible doesn’t just speak to us. It reads us!
When the Word Exposes the Heart
In John 8, religious leaders bring a woman caught in adultery to Jesus. They think they are testing Him and exposing her sin.
But Jesus responds: “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone.”
Suddenly the focus shifts. One by one, the accusers walk away. They came to judge someone else. But Jesus’ words exposed their own hearts.
That’s what Scripture does. It reveals us to ourselves.
- You read about pride and realize you’ve been defensive.
- You read about forgiveness and someone’s name comes to mind.
- You read about generosity and feel the tension between comfort and obedience.
Here’s a challenge for you today:
Ask “Where is Scripture challenging my heart?”
Ask “What is God revealing in me right now?”
Ask “What step of obedience is He asking me to take?”
